A Green Job You Cannot Reach Is No Job At All

Green skills courses are easier to find in Ghana than they were five years ago. Taking one is another matter for many women and people on low incomes. Of the money committed by the main climate funds up to 2016, less than 10 per cent was set aside for local action. We look at why the money misses local communities and how small, direct grants can help.

Why Do Women Lose More When The Weather Turns?

When heat or floods hit a farming community, households headed by women lose more. FAO found they lose 8 per cent more of their income to heat stress, and 3 per cent more to floods, than households headed by men. The cause is unequal access to land, credit, advice and time. This article sets out what adaptation that works for women looks like in practice.
